The
Lakewood Montessori School is dedicated to
the total development of the constantly growing
child. Our environments provide varying degrees of challenge from which
children may, with guidance, choose work according to their level of development.
We value that the direction of growth is positively influenced by perpetuating
a warm, caring, and nurturing community.
Lakewood
Montessori School is committed to individualized education, allowing children
freedom
to develop at their own pace. We strive to satisfy
a child's need to know, to achieve, to belong, to
feel safe and secure, and to develop self-esteem.
The school conducts programs for children from
infant through 6 years of age.
The educational
environment is enhanced by assimilating the strongest elements of existing
programs such as the Montessori teaching method combined with proven accelerated
learning
techniques using up-to-date technical innovations
such as computer aided instruction and audio-visual media systems.

Early childhood
educational programs are directed toward development of the basic learning
areas including: 1) spatial (ability to perceive and
manipulate the visual world); 2) bodily-kinesthetic
(skill in using one's body); 3) musical (ability to think
in sound); 4) interpersonal (social interaction with others); 5) intrapersonal
(self-understanding) and
6) practical life (care of oneself and the
environment).
In
addition to these basic learning areas, structured academic programs in
language development (verbal and written), including a foreign language
(Spanish), mathematics, science, development of computer
skills and social studies are also integral parts of the various learning
programs.The
core program is based
on the Montessori method; however, this program is enriched through incorporation
of an array of educational activities to ensure all aspects of your child's
development in the context of today's world.
